_Live in a Bridgerton filming location: our pick of the best Regency properties
Where is Bridgerton filmed?
Bridgerton explores the interesting and privileged lives of a circle of aristocratic families in the early 19th century. It’s famed for its styling, elegance and passionate drama. Whilst the storyline is set primarily in London, much of the filming took place over 100 miles outside of the capital – in beautiful Bath.
Bath is celebrated for its heritage architecture. The jewels in its crown include The Roman Bath, Pulteney Bridge and The Assembly Rooms (which provide one of the many Bridgerton locations). The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bath also has many literary connections, with Jane Austen being one of the most well documented.
What is Regency style?
The Regency period only lasted a few years, from 1811 to 1820. But it was an incredibly significant era of change in politics, economics and society. Prince George IV, the Prince Regent, was ruling in place of his sick father. His mother, Queen Charlotte was the queen consort. Both had strong interests in the arts which helped to drive huge cultural change.
Regency style was more elaborate and flamboyant than its predecessor. Architecture drew on influences from Egypt, Indo-China and Greece. Think intricate plasterwork, columns and symmetrical facades. The iconic Brighton Pavilion delivers this style in ultimate grandeur, but it’s also evident in the traditional terraces in parts of London and Bath.
